PRIEGO MARKET

New Wholesale Food Market, and Public building Project. [FIRST PRIZE]

(About “The Cave” by José Saramago)

“A small pottery, run by a family that understands that it is no longer necessary to the world, in front of a gigantic shopping center. A fast-growing world of extinction, another one that grows and multiplies.

The cavern talks about a way of life that is becoming less and less ours. Species are extinguished each day, there are professionals that become useless each day, languages that stop having people who speak them, traditions that lose meaning, feelings that become their opposites.

We will not change our lives if we do not change the life. “

The current location is STRATEGIC, a social meeting point, AN INTERSECTION BETWEEN THE COMMERCIAL AND CULTURAL AREAS of Priego de Córdoba. In this historical context, the market is located in a strategic place, near the countryside, near the raw material producers, and at the same time, near the city, the urban population to which it supplies and with whom it trades.

For this reason our approach of the urban analysis starts with two fundamental premises:

>COMMERCIAL AREA REACTIVATION

> EXTENSION OF THE HISTORIAL CITY CENTER.

These two points are keywords in the decision-making of the project, in the design of street-level entrances to eliminate architectural barriers, in external streets that end up in the building …. Outer-inner relationship.

Our main goal is to achieve a respectful architectural scale that recovers the historical, social and urban character of the environment.
